Guidance for a greater energy flow
Hot girl summer is firmly behind us, the kids are into the swing of being back to school (sort of) and you can almost smell the pumpkin spiced lattes as Halloween approaches. This also means that the days are getting shorter and that early morning start is depressing as hell. Financial belts are also being drawn tighter as Christmas fast approaches. Really? Already?! Yes I know . . .
Nearly all of us are feeling some type of emotional, spiritual or financial pressure after 18 months of undeniable upheaval. So who needs more energy?! (Me me me!!!)
I’m going to give you a list of energy givers that will help you connect with your spirituality, help create awareness of our toxic behaviours and assist you in energetically keeping your head above water.
Each persons approach and practice to what works for them will differ from person to person but I’m hoping that you will resonate with at least a couple of the suggestions below. Gold star if you contemplate more than six of them.
Sunlight - we know too much is bad for us, but the right balance can increase serotonin the natural mood booster that will help you to feel more calm and focused. I do also realise that we aren’t exactly known for our sunny winters here in the UK so make sure you’re taking a really good vitamin D supplement to tide you over.
Whole Foods - these little goodies are loaded with important nutrients and help lower rates of heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes. Making you just as sexy on the inside as you will be on the outside. You wintertime fine baby!
Hydration - this is a no brainer but easy to forget when our central heating goes back on. Unexplained headache anyone? Water is FREE. I always think if it wasn’t people would be guzzling the stuff. ‘Youth water’ as I call it is essential for cell renewal, improving your memory and mood, aiding weight loss, helping exercise performance and keeping your internal system running beautifully.
Sleep - I know nothing turns me into Oscar the Grouch quicker than burning the candle at both ends. (Even though I rarely learn) Sleep gives you a sharper brain, a healthier heart, steadier bloody sugar and boosts your immune system as well as your mood. If like me you struggle with sleep, try getting into bed a little earlier, minimise that screen time and drink a cup of Pukka Night time tea.
Nature - I think as winter creeps in and understandably we do less outside, we forget how important this is for our soul happiness. Going for a long walk on a Sunday morning won’t just boost your mood but will keep you physically healthy too. Wrap up warm and make yourself do it, it will take you out of your head.
Music - if you’re looking for an easy way to transform your mood, cue the music. Music can help fend off depression, connect you to yourself again and buoy you up you little disco dancer you. Research has found that not only can it lower stress related hormones like cortisol and ease pain but also listening to music before an operation can improve post surgery outcomes. Actually magic.
Movement - I love exercise, it’s my go to when I need a boost and is a miracle cure for most ills. Need to get out of your head, move. Need to loose weight and improve your self esteem, move. Want to improve your sleep and reduce stress, move. Regular exercise reduces the risk of dementia, depression, a variety of cancers and early death. Get down and give me 20.
Resting - rest is a fundamental part of success, health and happiness. We are surrounded by distractions in this digital world and there always seems to be something or someone that needs us. Ironically resting even for a few minutes will increase productivity. So working flat out is definitely not the one.
Decluttering - there is nothing like a good declutter to clear the cobwebs and to give you and your sanctuary room to breathe again. This is a big part of self care and making your well-being a priority. If you are struggling then invest in professional help like Declutter Dollies - founded by Dilly Carter who is the author of Create Space and has over 20 years experience.. This service is totally worth the time an investment into restoring your sanctuary and sanity.
Future Planning - nothing more mood boosting than having some finish lines to look forward to like a holiday or experience. Perhaps even a new home or career change. Maybe make a Pinterest or vision board mapping it out so you can get really clear on your vision. Stay focused on the experience you want to have and how you want it to make you feel. Choose words that hold meaning for you.
Connection - hang out with your friends. Emotions are surprisingly contagious. While people who are constantly negative can drag you down, there are those people that are the human version of sunshine that will boost you and give you a super lift. Stay close to these energy givers - humans are meant to heal through connection, so stay connected.
I promise you that if you try and be mindful of a couple of the above you will start creating more time and space for the things that bring you joy and will keep you connected to source. When we create more time to sit in our purpose we become far more aware of habits or actions that no longer serve us and we make informed decisions on how to pivot for positive change. Its not just more energy that we are striving for, its a balanced and happy life and it all starts with you.
