Inner Peace = Inner Success
What does success look like to you? Do you measure your success by the number in your bank account? Is it the material things you’ve accumulated? Perhaps its the value you place on your relationships, or its measured by a number on the scales . . . Its time to unlearn all those messages, because the real measure of success is achieving inner peace and happiness.
From a very young age we are fed society’s ideals about what success might look like. Perhaps you had a father with a strong work ethic that put the business before his emotional needs. Perhaps you had a mother who was permanently on a diet, determined to get the zip on that ancient dress up, all at the cost of never finding joy in food.
But here’s what I am helping my clients to learn . . . success has nothing to do with how your life looks to others and everything to do with how you feel from within. How often do you go to a party and meet someone for the first time that wants to do know what you do, where you live and what car you drive? Entirely so that they can measure themselves against you and somehow place you into a box that they can understand. They are missing the point - the questions we should be asking each other are; Are you happy? What fuflils you? What makes your soul feel alive?
So many of us postpone our happiness, hoping we will be happier when we are more ‘successful., but seeing as we are all unique, this magical destination is different for us all. The only unifying thing is to be happy and to feel at home in our own skin.. It is our authenticity that is the key to finding our purpose and success, not what might impress other people..
So how do we define inner peace? It is defined as the state of physical and spiritual calm despite many stressors. Finding your peace of mind means attaining happiness, contentment and bliss no matter how tough things might get. This by no means depending on a problem-free life, but remaining at peace despite it.
Focusing on inner peace will help you to make better decisions in your day-today life, it will increase your energy levels and improve your emotional management, it helps you with self compassion and ensures a better sleep quality.
There are many ways to help you achieve it and the tools will be different for everyone - some find serenity in nature, you may enjoy meditation, practising gratitude, journaling and taking responsibility for your actions - knowing there is a cause and effect to the things we say and do can help align your thoughts. Inner peace can also mean a focus on letting go and practising non attachment to past mistakes, instead focus on the learning rather than the problem.
Self care or self love is also crucial to finding inner peace. This means looking after your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health and knowing that you matter enough to put yourself first.
Happiness and success is available to you at this very present moment, not in the future, and not once you’ve reached a particular milestone. The moment you accept yourself as you are, start living your truth, and doing what makes you happy, you are already on the path to the ultimate success. Just live one day at a time, being quietly accepting of who you are, seeking happiness from within, accessing the ultimate inner peace which is the real authentic and crucial success.
